LABORATORY OF ANTHROPOLOGICAL RECONSTRUCTION

In the history of the methodology of "anthropological reconstruction", the combination of anthropologist and sculptor is frequent, popular and very advantageous, as it allows the combination of knowledge from different fields. The sculptor ensures high-quality technical processing and modelling, the anthropologist ensures the scientific correctness of the output.

Our cooperation began in 2014, and with the growing interest of the lay and professional public in the results of our work, the need arose to anchor this activity more clearly within the framework of the Moravian Regional Museum, more precisely the Center for Cultural Anthropology, which is currently the purpose of the formally and materially established "Laboratory of Anthropological Reconstruction" .

One of the profile tasks of LAR is the possibility of presenting the wealth of important anthropological finds from the collection funds in the form of three-dimensional models of human figures, created in a museologically very attractive form. We consciously prefer this currently very popular form of presentation, which we can perceive as a "competition" in a good sense to forensic anthropology, which uses digital technologies (however based on the same reconstruction principles), which are often used both in criminology and in specialist anthropological literature.
